It's 4:00 a.m. in Winnemucca and Bob is sound asleep. I woke up at 3:30 so decided to logon and get caught up on e-mails and this blog...besides, I had't had a chance to read Bob's last "Blah Blog" and was curious about all the typing he did. We lucked out at the Walnut Grove Library with their WIFI. This RV park also has WIFI but I couldn't get logged on last night. We arrived here around 4:00 p.m., stopped at a Raleys for something to fix for dinner, found the RV park and got all set up. After dinner we headed to the pool to cool down (it was 100 degrees when we arrived here) and watch the beautiful sunset.
This morning I moved the laptop all over the living room to find a good connection to the internet....it's sitting on 4 stacked boxes of my genealogy "stuff" and FOP "stuff"...allowing me my chance to blog. We left Walnut Grove around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. We had a really good time visiting with Aunt Marion and told her we'd be back (will post photo of us parked in front of Landing 63 and others when I have time). Having never traveled east from Sacramento or over Donner Pass we really enjoyed the scenery. Once out of the beautiful mountains, past Reno, we arrived in the desert. If you've ever driven from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe you know what I'm talking about. Bob insisted I take a photo of the mountains 30 or more miles off in the desert while we were traveling 60 mph...so I'll post that for your entertainment.
It's nice to be on the road again. Bob suggested we spend a couple days in Salt Lake so I can do genealogy research...sounded GREAT to me...so I think that's our next stop (or somewhere close to there).

Bob's Blah Blog
Ok, I'm back. If there are any errors in the earlier blog, its because I had to logoff before I could, or should I say, Corinne, could proofread it. Please excuse.
Ok, back to Dish Network. Remember the problem I was having with getting a new receiver shipped to me in Walnut Grove? Well, it just didn't get any better. On Tuesday, I started calling to find out where my receiver was. Some person told me I would get it the following day. I wasn't satisfied with that answer, so I asked to speak with a supervisor, having been one myself for a couple of minutes of my life. I got put on hold, then disconnected. I knew that would happen when I told the clerk when she asked why I wanted to speak with a supv. and I told her "because I want to, that's why G## D%$# it!
Next, I callled customer service to verify the previous info and to speak to a supv. about the crappy service I was getting from their crappy company. I got ahold of someone and verified the info and and told him if he was lying to me, I was going to make it my life mission to see to it he gets fired from Dish. I wanted his supv. name and he said it was Glee (sounds suspicious, doens't it). I wanted to speak with Glee, he asked why and I told him I wasnt't going to talk with him anymore, I wanted to speak with Glee, and if he lied to me I would make it my life mission to get him fired and that I was retired and had all the time in the world to make it happen. After several failed attempts for him to find someone named Glee, I told him to find me a manager. Shortly thereafter, Ruby Fernandez, who sounded more Pakistani than hispanic (I know, don't profile) got on the phone. I gave him a ration of poop about hiring incompetent people, people who lie, people who...well, you know, people who. I also told him I would make it my life mission to see that he got fired, too, if he lied to me. Surprising enough, he didn't lie to me, or not so I could catch him. He did advise, the receiver being delivered the very next day was going to be delivered to the house in Phoenix, not Walnut Grove. Well, that little tidbit really set someone (I mean Corinne) off. She hadn't been angry up to that point, but some dumb@#$ clerk decided the receiver needed to go to Phoenix, not Walnut Grove. That also got me fired up (like I already wasn't) and I gave old Rudy an earfull of "Ol' Bob." I got to say, he did get things worked out. We did get a receiver in Phoenix on Wednesday and we did get a receiver in Walnut Grove on Wednesday. Courtney, my father-in-law, and Corinne's dad, refused the delivery, as instructed, even tho I asked Rudy if he had any problem with me holding onto it for two or three weeks like they did by not resending it as they had promised. He said he was ok with that...yeah, sure he was. I did also get credit to my bill for 3 weeks of non-use of the reciever. What a clever Bob.
Wednesday night, Corinne and I tried to install the new receiver, but guess what...it didn't work. I got right on the phone to Dish and tried to get it authorized to use, as the directions said I was to do, but the lady, lets call her Jana, said there must be something wrong with the actual dish or the wiring between the dish and the receiver. I told her a Dish Network technician told me the receiver was bad, thats why I was getting a new receiver, not that the wiring or dish itself was bad. She said, thats too bad, but the receiver is good, the wiring is bad. I asked her to have a technician come by and check out the system since it is covered by our warranty. She said, and get this, the warranty only covers them coming out to the house, not anywhere else, such as a motorhome or coach traveling about. "I should just go home and have them come out to the house and fix it." That is the prefect answer. I told her I wasn't going to be back in Phx. until November and was planning on dropping Dish in favor or Direct TV. She reminded me I had 7 months left on my contract, but would be glad to give me to billing so something could be worked out. Guess I got hosed, didn't I.
Anyways, she gave me the phone numbers of 3 technicians in the Sac. area whom I could contact. Of course, any repairs would be at my cost, not theirs. I am going to wait until we move the coach to a better location and see if its just not a clear view to the satellite we are missing and not something wrong with the wiring, which I don't think is the problem. We can get satellite #110 but not #119. For some reason, I need both to make the system work, although the screen on the TV says if you have satellite #110, I don't have anything more. I think I am still ready to come home and kick some serious booty. I thought retirement was going to be fun, not wasting all day on the telephone trying to resolve issues with Verizon, Nationwide Retirement Solutions, Dish, Ford, on and on.
Now, back to the truck issue. On Wednesday, we took the truck to Geweke (pronounced give-a-key) for the engine light problem. They got us right in, offered us a ride back to Walnut Grove, even though the advisor didn't know where that was (about 40 minutes away). I asked about a rental car, a nearby Wal*Mart, the waiting room and a movie theatre. He said it would take a few hours for the tech to diagnosis the problem. We decided to just wait a bit to see if they found something quickly, which they did. There was something with the Turbo that was stuck open or closed, and they could have it fixed by around 1 or 2 pm. I asked for a ride to the movie theatre and we went to see Ratatouille, which was funny, but a bit long. Just as the movie ended, we gota call from the advisor saying the truck was fixed. I asked him to send a car to pick us up at the theatre and he said will do. We really felt like BIG-SHOTS getting dropped off and picked up by a shuttle van in downtown Lodi. Corinne even started talking like she was from the Hamptons or some where like that. You know, "Charles, take be back to the dealership." All this work on the truck was covered by warranty, so not everything about this retirement thing is all bad.
Corinne just told me about the two news helo's crashing in Phx. Dang, thats not good.
Today is Friday. We plan to move east on Sunday. First stopover will probably be Winnemucca, thats right, Winnemucca NV. Oooo Ahhhh! After that, probably Salt Lake City - where the girls are all pretty. Then to Cheyenne WY....why? because we like it there, even tho we have never been there. Wasn't there an old western tv show about Cheyenne?
Ok, all for now. My fingers are tired of typing. My pea brain is tired of thinking, and the beer from lunch has worn off.
As Arnold sez: "Hasta la Vista...Baby!

Bob's Blah Blog
Catching up on our activities. Last Sunday we went to San Francisco to pickup the nephews. We decided to ride the BART there and give the boys the opportunity of a lifetime, to ride the rails with Unkle Bobby and his side-track, Aunt Coey. Not sure if the boys ever roade the BART before, but they enjoyed the trip, and of course, our company. They had a great time at camp.
The night before (Saturday), Kevin sent me a text message asking if they could ride with their new made friends to SanFran on the bus. I responded, OK, what is your new girlfriend's name? He rplied, what new girlfriend? I answered, the one your riding the bus with. He retorted, Lacey, how did I know? I chided him, maybe almost 30 years as a police officer had something to do with it. He sobbed, oh yeah. Anyway, he met this tall lanky chica at camp and was in luv as any 15 going on 16 year old would have been. I know I would have if any girl ever even glanced my way when I was that old...but alas, none did.
Kyle didn't find a new girlfriend. Too bad for him. Missed out.
Monday, we did laundry and just lazed around. I had to take the truck back into Lodi to the Ford dealership because the check engine light came back on. This time, they said it wasn't the same problem as before, but I would have to bring it back the next day or Wednesday since they had nobody free to work on it. I choose Wednesday. The boys didn't go to Lodi with us. They were too busy reading books and reviewing the 10,000 (literally) photos they had on disk from their week at camp. 10,000 pictures of 13 to 17 year old kids...ooooh, be still my heart.
Tuesday, we took the boys back to Sacramento for their trip home. But first, we needed to have lunch. Some of us (meaning me) wanted to go to a place I saw on the Food Network called the Squeeze In. It is a burger joint what puts cheese on their burgers then lets the cheese get all fried up. It looked pretty good on TV. When we got there (east Sacramento) it really was a squeeze in place, no parking and pic-a-nic tables out back. Some of us (meaning Corinne) were not happy with my choice, so we drove to our favorite mexican food restaurant in north Sac. called El Coyote Depot or something like that. The food is good there, the boys liked it and so did Corinne and I.
Gotta sign off right now. At the library and only have access until 4 pm when the computer shuts off automatically. Like Arnold sez "I'll be back."

Bob's Blah Blog
Ok, here we go again. Let's see... Oh, yeah, on our trip here, as we passed thru the Port of Entry, I mean departure from AZ to CA, we heard something like dragging on the ground. No, it wasn't Corinne's feet refusing to leave Arizona, it was a piece of metal strip off the underside of the See Ya coach that came loose for some no good reason and was wearing itself down to a nub. Why it came off, I don't know. It was dragging on the ground and making noise. It wasn't my fault, it wasn't Corinne's fault, it was the asphalt. hehe. Anyway, I pulled out the one remaining screw holding it to the coach and put it in the back of the truck. Always something.
Now, back to real time. Everything that can go wrong has happened this week. Matter of fact, and of record, I was about ready to come home a couple of days ago and kick some serious "arse" with the trouble makers. Dish network still hadn't reshipped our Dish receiver that was mistakenly returned to them, even tho they said it would be redelivered the next day. Nationwide Retirement Solutions (our deferred compensation account) wouldn't release our money and wouldn't call us back. I left voice mail numbers on one machine, gave my number to a peon another time...but could anyone call me back??? NO!, although the guy who I left my number on his answering machine did call me back, but not on my cell phone, not on Corinne's cell phone, but on our home phone. Like I can really answer the phone at home from California. I got his cell phone number the next day and called him, having to leave him a voice mail, again, with my cell phone number, again, and waited, again. Nobody ever called me back. I next called the coporate office in Ohio and got someone on the ball there....at least they called me back. They hadn't received our paperwork there because it had only been sent to the Arizona office 7 - 9 weeks earlier. I guess two months just isn't time enough to put a stamp on the evelope and mail it to Ohio. Finally, when I asked what federal regulatory agency governed their business did I get some relief...meaning, AZ sent our paperwork to OH. But, not the amount we had specified. They sent all our money to Ohio. Don't ever do business with Nationwide Retirement Solutions. They are morons. But alas, we may have our first check by September...if someone else doesn't screw it up. I still have plans to complain to the Az Dept. of Insurance and the Regional Manager for the AZ office of NRS.
The next big problem was getting this computer I am writing on to work. It would work one day, but not the next. Then it worked the day after but not the day after that. Then it would work the day after the day it worked following the day it didn't work and so on. We spent hours on the phone with Verizon techincal staff trying to fix the problem. Finally, I told you-know-who we were going to go to a Verizon store and get it fixed. So we did. However.... at the store we went to they had no technician. They did tell us where to go, and it wasn't to hell, either, although I thought about telling them that myself. At the store with a technician, he wasn't trained to fix this type of problem, but was more than willing to let us use a phone to call a real technician, which we did. About less than a hour later, Corinne got the connection set up and now we have internet access via her cell phone and a tether to the computer, except when we don't have a strong signal from Verizon in Walnut Grove. Did I tell you about the first month of service FREE gambit? Well, don't believe it. When I looked at our most recent bill, there were two charges for the monthly internet access service. One for $4 and the other for $15, taking us all the way to August 10. I called Verizon, as I am prone to do, and asked why. I got put on hold for a really long time only to be told much later they had no such promotion and I should go back to the store where we signed up and have them explain. Right, I'll get right to that as soon as I get back to Phoenix in NOVEMBER!!!, YOU MORON!!!! Guess I won't be getting no month free will I? I explained they were giving the month free because it takes that long to get the thing set up to use. No sympathy from them. Dang.
Now, also on our way up, a check engine light came on and stayed on. I read the owner's manual and it gave me three possible causes. 1) Water in the fuel; 2) Out of fuel; 3) Fuel cap not on tight. It wasn't out of fuel because the gauge said so, I don't know about water in the fuel, and the cap was on tight. I took the truck to a Ford dealer for an oil change and had them check the engine light. They said I had a bad glo-plug relay something or other going bad and would have to order one. This was on Monday. They said they would have the part on Tuesday, but they didn't. I called on Wednesday, but they didn't have it still. On Thursday the service guy was sick and I didn't call anyways, but they did call me about missing an appointment on the 17th which I never made. Anyway, on Friday, I called and the part was in. I went, they installed and I drove away. Took all but a few minutes...fact is, I was still on hold with Verizon when the service was done.
Now, back to Dish Network. After repeatedly calling, I was told they were going to airmail me a new receiver and I should have it no later than today (Saturday). As of 1:30 pm it was still a no show. They also told me a supervisor would call me today (Saturday) to verify whether I received the receiver or didn't receive the receiver. No phone call received as of 4 pm. Wanna guess if they are going to call or not?? I am thinking about getting Direct TV when I get home.
Hey, there's a guy wearing a green t-shirt coming towards the Library. I wonder why.
For all you interested in how I am doing with my hair, its getting sooo long. I will be putting it into rubberbands in no time. I think I am going to let my mustache grow long so I have whiskers like a walrus, too. Should be fun. Corinne is very supportive of me. She may even let me get a pierced ear too, although, I would rather just superglue an earring to my ear just to try it out.
I guess thats all for now.

Bob's Blah Blog:
We've been going for walks most days. If not walking, sleeping. Watching the boats float by on the river, fish jumping and cars and motorcycles cruising down the highway.
We finally got the computer hooked up to the internet on Sunday at the Sacramento airport. We don't get good reception here on the Delta. Funny how reading the directions helps in getting something to work. I'm a directions-reading kind of guy. Someone else isn't.
Picked up nephews Kevin and Kyle at the Sacramento airport. They flew in for some kind of "torture camp" in Sonoma. Their mom says they will have fun. We took them for lunch at El Coyote Junction and gave them a quick tour of Old Sacramento. They saw sights they never thought they would see in their lifetime, or at least thats what I told 'em. We went by the state capitol building and thought we saw Governor Arnold but it was just a big tree stump. I told the boys "we'll be back" just like Arnold would say it. They got to meet Aunt Marion and get their first look at life on the Delta. All is swell.

We arrived at Landing 63 in Walnut Grove CA this afternoon. Took a new route from Phoenix to Sacramento, via I-17 to Flagstaff AZ, I-40 to Bakersfield, Hwy 99 to Lodi, then I-5 to Thornton exit for Walnut Grove. Spent several hours in Selma CA for genealogy research. Visited the North Cemetery and took photos of gravestones (Manuel Vincent, Laura Vincent and Walter Vincent) of Coe's grandmother's (Corinne Vincent's) parents and brother.

Bob's Blah Blog:
Ok, here's the real scoop on the trip. We ate at Tommy's hamburgers! Not the orginal that you would find in the Rampart section of LA, but a reasonable facsimile. Actually, it was a Tommy's franchise. Burgers with the works. Onion, pickle, tomato and CHILI! You talk about good and you got a mouth full. We could of had fries with that burger, too, and more chili, but we didn't (I mean Corinne) didn't want me to have the after affects of chili...if you know what I mean.
We spent one night at the Flying J truck stop in Bakersfield, parked way in the back with all the big rigs, "yup, yup, yup" (thats trucker CB radio talk for "yup, yup, yup"). We left "Sticker town" on our big adventure. Anyways, back to the truckstop. We found a number of empty spaces all around the lot, some better than others, some no so better. We finally ended up out near the freeway parked next to two bobtails and a tanker. Got parked and hooked up the generator. Odd smell in the area which we learned the next morning was a drainage curb behind our rig that I am quite sure where the drivers divest themselves of excess water and and stuff during the night instead of going inside the terminal. Now, if you ask the drivers they would tell you its the "chicken-haulers" who are responsible for that. Anyway, Corinne almost stepped in the wet and that would not have been good for here shoes or hair because she would have had to ride in the back of the truck the rest of the way. Its a new truck, you know.
At the cemetery, we walked around and found the graves we were looking for. One gravestone I found of interest was the one for someone's husband. The marker said "erected by his wife." Well, I would certainly hope so.
